Last year, shortly after the announcement of Cornell's new Computing and Information technologies building, Gates Hall, we asked where is the building going to go? At the time, the Cornell administration asserted that the building would be "in close proximity to the Colleges of Engineering and Arts and Sciences and the new Life Sciences Building" as well as the first building block in an "information campus" that would "be a complex of linked buildings integrated with a variety of green spaces and common spaces designed to involve students and provide opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration." Which to us, at least, seemed impossible. But now the Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP) website has released some slides that preliminarily indicates that Gates Hall will be tucked in behind Duffield and Upson Halls, very close to the now closed Ward Reactor. Here's the relevant graphic from the CMP: And here is a birds-eye view of the site: Will this parking lot turn out to be the future site of the "information campus"? Time will only tell.
